What is a camp gateway and what do I need to know about building one?

Poacher has a great tradition of camp gateways - they're a brilliant way to welcome visitors to your site, make friends, and showcase your design and building skills!

However, it's really important to remain safe during the construction of your gateways.

In accordance with the Working at Height Regulations 2005, wherever possible working at height should be eliminated, and Poacher and the Lincolnshire Showground actively encourages this. The majority of pioneering gateways can be built without Scouts, Guides and Leaders needing to leave the ground.

However, if the construction of your gateway requires the use of ladders, or people climbing on the structure, the maximum permitted height for such work is 1.8m - and any work involving people above ground will need a risk assessment and method statement signed off.

When securing your gateway in the ground, don't use any stakes or pegs longer than 30cm - the Showground has a number of essential services running just below the ground we'd hate for you to disturb!
